Here at RDC we have seen more than our share of clever storage ideas over the years.  Things like appliance garages (where small kitchen appliances tuck away behind roll down doors and the like), have become commonplace. In this article from Fine Home Building.com, the author demonstrates a creative way to ‘tuck away your toaster’. These are the clever kind of solutions you can end up with when you work with a professional designer or builder to design your new kitchen or living space.

Storage space was limited in this compact modern kitchen, so San Francisco-based Hulburd Design (hulburddesign.com) invented some creative storage options to accommodate everyday appliances and to reduce visual clutter. Here, above a Sub-Zero refrigerator drawer and a maple butcher-block prep surface, a secret solid-paneled door reveals a slide-out plywood platform that supports a toaster and a coffeemaker.

Hidden, but accessible. A magnetic touch latch opens the bright red door, providing access to the toaster and the coffeemaker. Hiding these appliances not only cleans up the look of the kitchen, but it also increases prep space on the butcher-block countertop.
